A soapbox derby
is a little like a pinewood
derby, except the car is bigger
and YOU'RE IN IT.
You build your own gravity-propelled vehicle, we inspect it for safety, and then you let'er rip down Church Street.
There is the outrageous entry fee of $1.00 due the day of the race.
Only one
vehicle runs at a time, so youll
be racing against a speed monitoring
radar and the stop watch.
1st, 2nd
and 3rd place awards will be
given for speed, design and creativity.
Prizes
include certificates for bumper
boats, miniature golf and ice
cream at Kimballs or Great Brook
Farm.
Old Home Day Soapbox Derby Rules
Overview: The course for this race will only encompass a part of the hill on Church Street by Spalding Field. The intent isn't to set world speed records but to have fun and encourage Dads and Moms and kids to get together on this and "come on down". There's a "position in the field" for everyone from 10 to 100.
--------------- The Rules ----------------
Entry form: If you're
going to enter a racer,
e-mail us and we'll assign
you a race number and forward
an entry form to us. Bring the signed
form along with the $1 entry
fee on race day, an hour BEFORE
the race (race starts at 2:30 PM) so your car can be safety
tested and judged for non-racing
prizes.
If you pre-register your vehicle
one week in advance, by
June 21, we will arrange for
an early vehicle inspection
at your home so that you have
more time to correct any problems
that may otherwise preclude
your car from qualifying on
race day.
