CONGRATULATIONS TO DAVID WANG
OHD 2020 SCHOLARSHIP WINNER!
In 2007, the Old Home Day Committee established a scholarship program designed to reward graduating high school students for their exemplary commitment to community service in Carlisle or in the global community. Each applicant is required to submit an essay describing how they gave of themselves, and the impact their efforts had on the community they served. This year the program consists of one $2,500.00 award.
This year’s recipient, David Wang, is a 2020 CCHS graduate who dedicated his time and energy to a wide variety of volunteer activities in the greater Boston area. For three years, and through the Boston Project Ministries, David provided humanitarian services to people in Dorchester. He served individuals and organizations by providing a variety of services ranging from yard work to painting a mural to food service. Through his efforts, David gained a clear understanding of the residents’ daily challenges, and brainstormed on creative ways to address them. As an adaptive skating school instructor at the Sharper Edge Skating School in Concord, David taught students with special needs the joy of skating. While working with kids who were challenged by autism, ADHD, speech disabilities and even blindness, David learned to adapt to his students’ special needs and provided the support, patience and encouragement needed to help them achieve their personal goals as aspiring skaters.
Please join us in congratulating David Wang who will attend Boston College in the fall!
Old Home Day 2020
To the Carlisle Community – due to the continued precautions seen in Massachusetts preventing large gatherings and the uncertainty associated with the current pandemic, the Old Home Day committee has decided not to hold an Old Home Day gathering this year.
While the gathering won’t happen, some parts of OHD will continue, including the award of the Old Home Day scholarship and recognizing an Honored Citizen. We also hope you find time this summer to carry out some small part of the celebration of what we all cherish in Old Home Day, maybe bake a pie or decorate a cake or have a BBQ with your family and see how quickly you can shuck an ear of corn!
Any donations received this year will offset our small costs to date and then be applied to Old Home Day 2021 – we will see you next year, better than ever!
Carlisle Old Home Day is a special time for families and friends to get together and create wonderful memories. There are a host of events for everyone to take part in. This is the time to bake, paint, sculpt, create and participate! See the list under the Events tab to get started!
