Fun on the Green!
Looks like a real jumper!Listen to those peepers! Those frogs are calling out and ready to show their stuff, now all you have to do is find the real jumpers out there and bring them to OHD.
Frog Jumping starts at 11:00am on the Green. |
Rabbits have nothing on these hoppers! Remember, while the frogs can really jump, they will need some help getting back home so be sure you take them back to the pond or bog where you found them.
|
Careful with those eggs!Think you can toss that egg or have the perfect partner for a 3-legged race, well let’s see what you can do. Don’t miss this fun event where all the kids get to race (and egg toss) across the Green and maybe even Mom and Dad will get a chance to let loose that inner child!
Kids Games start at 12:30pm on the Green |
Before you catch a frog for the Frog Jumping contest, make sure it is not an at-risk species!
Massachusetts Fish and Wildlife has listed the Northern Leopard Frog as “Population
Decreasing”. This means the species is at risk of being listed as vulnerable, should the
numbers grow smaller. There are plenty of Northern Green Frogs that frequent the
Carlisle area, a species that is listed as “Population Stable”. To do your part, when
catching a frog for the contest, know what species to look for, and let the Leopard Frogs
continue to have a chance to remain a part of the Massachusetts ecosystems.
Remember to release frogs back to the same location you found them.
Thank you to Alexa Skirvanek for this information!
